With a 90% partial solar eclipse visible in Winterthur, I wanted to see if I could make a matching picture to the full moon setting behind the Brühlberg tower. Unfortunately not quite - but close - the sun setting beside the tower. I worked with two cameras, one with a 700mm lens on a tracker to capture a closeup of the eclipse. A second camera at 255mm to match the 300mm moon pictures with enough room to crop in and match the moon timescape.

• tracked timelapse with the R5: 1’123

• with the R5 mark ii: 241 (another 1’000+ images from the timelapse were unsharp and deleted)

Images used:

• For the tracked timelapse all 1’123 images were used. They were all cropped out and hand stabilised for the timelapse as the wind with the 700mm lens introduced quite a bit of jitter.

• For the composite timescape picture 2 of the R5 mark ii images were used for the background and 5 of the R5 moon shots were inserted to show the first half of the eclipse (the second half was below the horizon as the sun set shortly after the maximum eclipse).

Composition method:
The two landscape images from the beginning 19:02:56 and end 20:23:22 were put together and blended along the diagonal to show the changing sky from the beginning daytime to the golden hour end of the event. Five eclipse pictures were taken and inserted to show the progress of the eclipse. I inserted the eclipse sequence slightly closer to the tower to match the setting full moon picture from Nov 2025 - an artistic decision to complete my vision of those two pictures showing a sunset with the eclipse and a sunrise with the setting moon.
