2026-06-25 Zermatt, Matterhorn, sunrise
Timescape Details
I always wanted to try a timescape with the Matterhorn and the village of Zermatt in the foreground. This is my first attempt showing a sunrise which hits the peak of the Matterhorn before it gets to the village in the valley. This pictures captures this well - the village is still in the dark and the sun just starts to drive out the night by illuminating the peak of the Matterhorn first.
Date & Time:
2026-06-25 04:13:27 to 09:51:59 (tz +0200) nautical twilight to daytime 🇨🇭
Nbr of Images taken: 636
Interval: 30 sec
Images used:
56 images were used for the timescape, all 636 images were used for the timelapse.
Composition method:
The last daytime image from 09:51:59 was used as the bottom image of the composition.
The earliest image from 04:13:27 was blended on top to have the nighttime village.
The 54 nautical twilight images were stacked using the lightest pixels to emphasise the movement of the few clouds. A specific subset when the clouds were very purple was overlayed to emphasise the purple clouds.
Finally the image from 05:45:28 shortly after sunrise hit the top of the Matterhorn was overlayed.
This approach was chosen to show the rising sun being visible first on the top of the Matterhorn before reaching the village.
